DNMT1 is a DNA methyltransferase that predominantly methylates CpG dinucleotides on hemimethylated DNA, DNA on which one strand is already methylated. DNMT1 is the key maintenance methyltransferase, keeping both strands of DNA methylated, particularly after DNA replication. Recombinant human DNMT1 was expressed in E. coli as amino acids 2-1632 (accession number NP_001124295) with an N-terminal GST tag. The molecular weight of the protein is ~211 kDa.
