Active Motif’s Deacetylase Inhibitor can be used to inhibit histone deacetylase (HDAC) activity. Histone acetylation is known to play an important role in the regulation of chromatin structure and gene expression. Inhibition of HDAC activity leads to hyperacetylation of histones that results in changes in expression of a subset of genes and induction of cell cycle arrest, differentiation and apoptosis. Because of these properties, deacetylase inhibitors have been targeted as potential treatments for cancer and other diseases.

The Deacetylase Inhibitor can be used during the preparation of cell lysates or crude histone extractions to inhibit histone deacetylase (HDAC) activity and preserve histone acetyl marks. The Deacetylase Inhibitor can also be included in functional assays to help maintain acetyl modifications or study HDAC inhibition.
The Deacetylase Inhibitor is provided as a ready-to-use 100X stock solution in a sterile distilled water. Optimal working concentrations of Deacetylase Inhibitor and dilution buffers will vary depending on the cell type and assay used and should be determined by the researcher. Once diluted, the deacetylase inhibitor can be added directly to the media of cultured cells or assay buffer of functional assays.
